The EuroVelo 3 route begins in Trondheim, Norway, and ends in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. It stretches 5,400 kilometers, following the great historical routes of Christian pilgrimage across Europe.
The route crosses 6 countries in succession :
- Sweden : The route begins in the heart of the Scandinavian forests.
- Denmark : The land of cycling, it offers smooth routes through cities and maritime landscapes.
- Germany : The route passes through major cities such as Hamburg, Hanover, Cologne, and Aachen.
- Belgium : Between Liège, Namur, and Charleroi, the route passes through the Meuse and Sambre valleys.
- France : The French section, called the Scandibérique, crosses 20 departments from north to south over more than 1,700 kilometers.
- Spain : After crossing the Pyrenees, EuroVelo 3 joins the famous Camino Francés, 780 km long, dotted with inns, typical villages, and places steeped in spirituality, all the way to Santiago de Compostela.

The Pilgrims’ Cycle Route is much more than just a cycling route: it connects 20 UNESCO World Heritage sites and immerses travelers in the history of the European continent. Here are some of the most iconic sites you’ll encounter on the Eurovelo 3 France and beyond :
- Aachen Cathedral in Germany, a Carolingian masterpiece and coronation site for emperors.
- Cologne : Its Gothic cathedral is one of the largest in Europe.
- Tours and Poitiers are major stops on the Via Turonensis, dotted with religious buildings and abbeys.
It is worth noting that the Via Turonensis was one of the four great routes to Santiago de Compostela in the Middle Ages. It was once frequented by kings and pilgrims from northern Europe.
- Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, the French gateway to the Spanish Way.
- Bordeaux, a city of art and history, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is crossed by the Garonne River and its lively quays.
- Santiago de Compostela is the final destination for pilgrims, a spiritual center since the Middle Ages.

- The Scandibérique: the French segment of EuroVelo 3, signposted from the Belgian border to the Spanish border, over 1,700 km. It is the longest route in France.
- Eurovelo 6 – from the Atlantic to the Black Sea : a connection at the city of Tours takes you on the Eurovelo 6. An escape along Europe’s greatest rivers.
- EuroVelo 4 – Central European Cycle Route: a 5,100km route from east to west, which crosses the EV3 in Belgium.
- EuroVelo 1 – The Atlantic Cycle Route: a crossing in Spain, this journey along the Atlantic coast crosses six countries. In France, it is called the Vélodyssée.
